The first event of the semester provided an opportunity for the students
receiving NSF scholarships and the Math and Computer Science faculty to meet
each other. We began with an ice breaker that involved tying a string to
the wrists of one person and then tying another string that looped inside
of the first to the wrists of a second person. The task was to get free from
each other without breaking the string. (A little topology goes a long way
in solving this problem!)
Left: Renee and Dr. Pankratz were the first to get free from each other.
Introductions were made, expectations were discussed, and snacks were consumed.
It was a good beginning.
